Weekly Digest September 6 — 12
Today we listen to the long-awaited LP by Amyl And The Sniffers, have Andrew W.K. partying with God, see that everybody covers Metallica's "Black Album", and enjoy soulful punk, indie, humor in extreme metal, and the 34th album of space rockers in our Weekly Digest.
Aborted — ManiaCult
After a 3-song EP in April, Aborted is back on the digest with a full-length. There are no surprises, and they are not needed, you get exactly what you expect. But I should single out the humor in the clip on "ManiaCult", the jokes in the headlines are too funny.

Andrew W.K. — God Is Partying
The King of Parties Andrew W.K. unexpectedly released a very epic, suited for stadium-scale venues heavy metal album, full of love for the 80s, epic synths and both Ozzy and Dio. For the most part, I was familiar with the work of Andrew W.K. due to his 2012 album "I Get Wet" which, of course, contained an all-time hit "Party Hard". This time the hits on the album are much darker, but still very invigorating – I feel that "I'm in Heaven" and I will listen to "Babalon" many more times.

Amyl and The Sniffers — Comfort To Me
If you haven't heard of these Australians, have you been following music news for the last few years at all? The band kicked a door from the underground into the mainstream wearing cowboy boots. All thanks to Amy Taylor's incredible energy and charisma, which has become such an icon of modern punk music that Miley Cyrus or her stylists do not hesitate to copy her image. Features on Viagra Boys and Sleaford Mods albums, Best Band, Best Live Act and Best Musician awards at the Music Victoria Awards of 2020, shooting for the Gucci lookbook – Amyl and The Sniffers deserve all of that. Even from singles for "Comfort To Me", I realized that the band is growing up. It successfully spends money from the label and sounds more confident than ever, without losing their punk passion, for which they are loved. "Comfort To Me" is a logical development and transformation from slackers (but not losers!) into real punks. As the former bartender of Tom Sour, Noise Bomb band drummer, and one of the founders of the vegan food company "The Loopci", Morzh said: "Punk has to be rich and successful". Well done, Amyl and The Sniffers!

Black Mass — Feast At The Forbidden Tree
Blackened speed metal from Boston, Massachusetts. A worthy album for fans of the genre – a great balance of fun and evil.
Face To Face — No Way Out But Through
Fat Wreck Chords continues to release soulful albums. Face To Face frontman Trever Kate commented on the album: "For me, 'No Out Out But Through' means facing obstacles in life, not looking for ways to escape from them or where to hide from them." Moderately sad, moderately inspiring album from these adult Californian punks.

Hawkwind — Somnia
Hawkwind is known to fans of heavy music as the band that Lemmy was kicked out due to the vibe differences (Hawkwind ate acid and Lemmy drank and sped up, so it wasn’t easy for them to be together), and prog music fans know Hawkwind as one of the first space rock bands. In 2021, Hawkwind will celebrate 52 years on stage and release its 34th full-length.

Trappist / Connoisseur — Cross Faded
The split album of Trappist (the beer connoisseurs) and Connoisseur the band (plant enthusiasts) turned out to be full of powerful fast-paced bangers and fuzzy haziness. Also, the song titles on this split are truly hilarious.

Various Artists — The Metallica Blacklist
The news is that 53 artists covered the legendary "Black Album". The cast is rather interesting: here you have rockers, pop artists, some Latin musicians, and rappers. In short, there are some quite powerful covers, and there are, well, not such ones, but agree: to release a collection of covers for your most successful album, which will consist of seven (!!!) 12-inch records, only a band like Metallica can do so. All profits will go to charity.

We Were Promised Jetpacks — Enjoy The View
Nice album from the Scottish indie rockers who got into our last year's Yearly Digest. As always, beautiful, sincere, and soulful. I consider the song "Fat Chance" one of the most life-affirming songs I've heard this year, even if you won’t listen to the album, I highly recommend checking at least this one out.
